Christmas is on its way and there is an air of excitement everywhere. A sense of hurrying to buy the thoughtful gifts and everything else associated with this crazy, mad, beautiful, hectic - what shall we buy for Aunty/Uncle, Mum/Dad etc time of the year.
Two years ago I added to my hectic Christmas preparations by beginning a book illustrating the well known song 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' which can test the memory to the ultimate, try remembering which number goes with each different set of birds or people or rings out of order...my friends have all tried and find it very difficult. I have at last completed my book and based it around our wild birds and rare birds such as the beautiful Turtle dove. I did give this to a publisher but I was told whilst it is a lovely book with amazing illustrations they thought it too seasonal. So I've gone back to the drawing board, as it were, to decide what to do next. Maybe 'The Twelves Months to Christmas', I haven't made up my mind yet. There are 72 illustrated pages in all, as well as the end papers, the titles pages and all the other content which go to make a complete book. People who have seen the book love it so that is a positive. A recent visitor from Michigan said 'go ahead - get it seen and published'... So in the New Year that is what I intend to do without tweaking it any further... well maybe just a bit on a couple of pages, artists are never satisfied.
