Winter Wildlife

Yesterday on my way to work, walking along the redway, there was definitely a sense of the season beginning to shift, a slightly more greening of branches, a change of nature's palette from the deep winter colours which are moving away from the ochres, darks plums and sepias to a more gentle green, a silvering of branches with lichens and a much paler lemon. It all begins almost imperceptibly at first but a few early snowdrops are in flower and some other brave bulbs are daring to put their leaves above ground. A stirring of the Earth in its old as time-remembered rhythms and an expansion of the light, a feeling of life and energy returning very gradually, and if it's your belief in the young Goddess returning from the underworld bringing nature's hint of the glorious season which will once again begin even though we are still enjoying a slumbering winter of colour.
