Harriet - Original
Harriet is a very young herring gull. On Portland in Dorset they are not always popular as they choose to build their nests on top of the rooves of houses and during the Spring and Summer their parents fly back and forth to feed them, I always know when I have arrived for a holiday at my parents as I am woken up by their beautiful mournful cries and their chuckling. The reason for the nest roof building is that they find it easier pickings for scavenging food from our bins and landfill sites. They are however on the endangered list and are a protected species.
